Leading an internal ChatGPT on Azure OpenAI

I was the lead developer of an internal generative AI application at Lumeris: an in-house ChatGPT built on Azure OpenAI with a SvelteKit front end.

The problem

Employees wanted to use generative AI in their daily work. As a healthcare technology company, Lumeris also had strict data privacy requirements, so public consumer chat tools were not an option for work that might involve sensitive information.

The approach

Azure OpenAI offers OpenAI models inside Microsoft Azure, under enterprise security and compliance controls. Building on it let the company provide a familiar chat experience on infrastructure that met its requirements.

The result

Employees gained access to generative AI, and the company kept meeting its healthcare data privacy requirements.
